The halls in Holland were small. In Utrecht the evening concert was sold out with 1900 tickets. Everything went well with the numbers. No one had to sleep outside. The people with numbers had to be there at 12.00 and then were sent away until 14.00 because the fans of the afternoon-concert were still standing in line. But the hall was in the middle of a shopping centre and there were lots of places with hot food and drinks.
The doors went open 18.00. I think everyone had a nice place, because the hall was so small. I had a perfect place myself. Several times I had the idea that if I reached out I could touch the Kelly's. Many fans were able to give their gifts personally to the Kelly's, so I guess that shows how close we were. The fences were close to the stage, because of the size of the hall. I was on the second row, only one person stood in front of me.
At 19.30 Paddy came up, alone. He sang his new song HOPE. During the song the other Kelly's came on stage, Angelo, Maite, Patricia and a bit later Jimmy and Joey. Then WHY WHY WHY started. Joey said he loved Holland and that he couldn't speak dutch very well, but that we could speak english.
After that Jimmy came and sang THUNDER with the crazy things he always does.
Then Patricia came and received extremely many gifts that she took herself from the audience. She talked to us in dutch, she knows it the best of all. And then sang LOOKING FOR LOVE which almost couldn't be heard because of the enthousiastic fans who were singing along.
I FEEL LOVE came after that and gave the fans reason to yell for Maite who was extremely popular this evening. Paddy also sang NO WOMAN NO CRY in the song and finished it again with 'I feel love'.
Maite then sang a new song that she wrote for someone called WATCH THE STEPS. I had bought some typical dutch candy for her, called 'dropjes', and I threw them to her.
Then finally Angelo came from behind his drums and the other Kelly's left the stage to let Angelo sing WONDERFUL TONIGHT >from Eric Claptopn, all by himself. It didn't start so good, because his guitar gave no sound. He tried to put the plugg well, and then a roadie came on stage and fixed the problem. After Wonderful Tonight the others came back and started playing FELL IN LOVE WITH AN ALIEN.
Right after that came I'LL SWIM I'LL SWIM. Paddy usually talks before this song, and he told us that the clothes he wore were bought in Amsterdam. Then Patricia came and sat down on a little chair and said something about her song, it was a new song and is called WINNIE THE POOH. She trusted the audience to have remembered the chorus, because she let us sing several times. It was a cute song and very nice sung by Patricia's beautiful voice. Some fans in front of us had handpuppets in the characters of Winnie the Pooh, they had Winnie himself, Knorretje (I don't know his english name, but it was the pink pig) and Tigger. Patricia liked them and took them when the fans gave them to her.
Then my favorite Joey song came ANOTHER WORLD, strong as ever. It was followed up by KEY TO MY HEART with a more rocksound than the original song.
To my surprise Maite then took an electric guitar. The crowd was yelling 'Maite Maite Maite' and she looked shy by hearing that. She sat down and was alone, the other Kelly's left the stage and she started singing another new song called I WANNA BE LOVED, this song was so cool. The whole aundience listened without breathing, it was totally silent, until one fan behind us suddenly screamed 'Maite !!!'. Maite ofcourse heard it and started to laugh. By that time Paddy had come back and played keyboard in the song, and he played on, so Maite picked up the song again and sang along.
The song had a top-climax where all the Kelly's played along and gave it a great rock-ending.
Then it was Joey turn again to sing HALLELUJAH, always wonderful, because his heart is so much in it.
Jimmy came after that with ROCK AND ROLL STOLE MY SOUL and let us do the Beans beans...part.
Then Patricia and Jimmy sang PLEASE DON'T GO and my sister was able to give Patricia a 101 dalmations balloon that she bought especially for her.
After that Maite came again and sang SO MANY THINGS I WANNA DO, I love this song.
Then we had something very special. This did not happen in Amsterdam the day before and also not in Utrecht that afternoon. But Paddy told us that they lived here in Amsterdam and that they had a good friend here and that he was here in Utrecht and that they wanted him to join them onstage. and then he introduced Nippi Noya. Many of you will know him as the percussionist on the video 'Live in East Germany'. Of course he is the master of conga's, so he played the conga's during ARES QUI.
Halfway the song Jimmy came to Paddy and whispered something in his ear, then Paddy walked to Patricia and probably whispered the same to her, it went from Kelly to Kelly and a few seconds later the Kelly's walked in a circle around the conga's with Nippi behind it. The walked like they do in on the boot, singing 'Good Neighbour' on the video Tough Road 3. But only now Nippi was in the middle. Of course Paddy had to do some crazy things. It was very nice.
After that they all hugged Nippi and Maite bowed to him. They decided he had to stay to join Angelo in the drumsolo. That was very cool. After that Nippi was introduced as 'the first teacher of Angelo', they brought him in front of stage and of course he got an amazing applause.
Joey sang THE WOLF then, but in the end I think something went wrong with the microphone, I couldn't hear him scream the last sentences. Paddy made signs to the music-people several times. Lots of times things weren't heard, but for the fans it wasn't noticed most of the time.
Joey changed guitars and made us have goosepumps with ANGELS FLYING.
The harmony among the fans that usually appears during Take My Hand now came with Angels Flying. Everybody held hands. And they were burning 'Wunderkerzen'.
The music changed into WARRIORS OF LOVE and Maite imitated a heartbeat on her bassguitar by slapping on the strings with four fingers. She did that on the very end whereafter a silence fell.
Then it was time to party again with ONE MORE FREAKING DOLLAR. At the end Paddy gave everybody water and they came in front and spitted it out. I was focussing on Paddy with my camera, because I was so close that I couldn't take them all, and suddenly me and my camera all got wet >from somebody elses water, I think Maite's or Joey's. I hadn't seen it coming. Patricia again apologized to a fan, just like at the Loreley, I think she doesn't spit up like a fountain, but a stream right in someones face.
That was supposed to be the end, but ofcourse we could expect two encores.
Paddy and Angelo came together and sang I CAN'T HELP MYSELF and they pretended again that it was the end, but then all the Kelly's came back and they sang as final MOTHERHOOD. I saw on the program, that I got from the stage, that they had planned to sing Mama and Amazing Grace too. I don't know why they didn't, maybe there wasn't enough time. Of course that would've been nice, but we didn't miss the songs, the concert was very complete and perfect. As always...
